Steve Berna has been in the healthcare industry since 1988 and currently heads the Pharmacy Actuary division at Remedy Analytics. Mr. Berna created and led the first managed care actuarial team for Trustmark Insurance Company with responsibility for creating medical network pricing models.
His actuarial success quickly provided the promotion to Pharmacy Director at Trustmark and he was charged with developing a cohesive pharmacy strategy. He led efforts that created significant savings through better vendor management and contracts for the PBM and high-priced specialty products, as well as installing various cost control programs resulting in 0% pharmacy trend for 2 years.
As a consulting actuary Steve has served as the client lead for many large groups such as CoreSource TPA, United American Insurance Company, Federated Insurance Company and Trustmark Insurance Company, as well as Taft-Hartley union groups such as AEPC (AFL-CIO Employer Purchasing Coalition), IUOE International in Washington, DC (International Union of Operating Engineers), 1199 SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and many others.
Mr. Berna is asked to speak nationally at various pharmacy symposiums, society of actuaries meetings, PBM client advisory boards, and national union meetings.
